School of Health Sciences

The School’s Vision

To be a leading Dynamic World Class Academic and Professional Centre of Excellence in the provision of hands on Practical Research based Public Health Training.

The School’s Mission

To train articulate World Class Public Health Professionals who will approach health issues with a holistic perspective and critically analyze problems with a view of integrating theory and practice in the assessment and provision of preventive and promotive health care services so as to meet the dynamic health needs in the community.

Health Programmes aims at producing professionals capable of addressing health issues from a global perspective and critically analyzing environmentally related health problems with a view to providing solutions. In many African Universities, trainings in health is mainly at graduate and postgraduate levels which renders it difficult to produce enough Health Professionals for Public Health Services. This does not augur well with the high burden of disease attributable to preventable diseases such as malaria, Tuberculosis, etc.

GRETSA University has thus come to provide a solution to this problem by providing skilled Health professionals at all learning levels who are capable of integrating theory and practice in assessing and managing public issues affecting the health of the individual, family and community.

At Gretsa University our health training utilizes modern methods that ensure that our students are not only excellent in the academic aspects of health but also in the practical and analytical aspects. Learners are exposed to laboratory practical, seminars, health shows and medical camps for adequate hands on field experience. A block trimester learning mode approach is used, employing mainly those methods that encourage learner-centered-active learning.

The School has a fully equipped laboratory and the plan to put up a university teaching hospital is at a very advanced stage. This will incorporate special areas of health care which will encompass teaching of clinicians, laboratory technicians and Health researchers for the 21st century.
